Communities across West Norfolk are being urged to gear up for the borough’s annual Village Games, which take place in June.

The event, now in its 24th year, was formally launched at Lynnsport on Monday 25th April by organisers, sponsors and representatives of the villages aiming to defend their crowns this year.

Event organiser Adam Garford, of Alive Leisure, said: “The Village Games is a fantastic event, which really brings the community together. “We need key personalities in villages to step forward and raise a team to enter.” Borough councillor Elizabeth Nockolds, who is a trustee of Alive Leisure, added: “The games are a fantastic opportunity for villages to compete in a range of sporting activities. “It also encourages people to try and continue with a new sport.” As in previous years, the games include a total of 19 events for adults and children, including ranging from football, netball, badminton and bowls to rounders, fitness triathlon and a fun Gladiator Challenge in Lynnsport’s gymnastics centre.

The defending champions are Massingham and Harpley in the small village category and Terrington St Clement in the medium village section. For the first time, the event is also being sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of King’s Lynn. General Manager, James Keech, said: “We continuously looks for ways in which to support the local community, and the West Norfolk Village Games provides just that opportunity. “We’re proud to support such a positive initiative, and hope that this year is as successful as all previous.”
