Introducing The New Volkswagen Crafter

Volkswagen Commerical Vehicles UK has released the first photos and details about the new Crafter in an international press release.

The pictures show a completely new van that’s been designed around the people who will use it, and which offers outstanding practicality, driveability and economy.

The new Crafter will be available with front, rear and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The EU6 EA 288 2.0TDI engine, developed especially for this model, is available with four power outputs: 102PS, 122PS, 140PS and a bi-turbo TDI 177PS. The choice of engine depends on which drive system is selected. Such variety has never been seen before in this segment.

The engines work with the new exterior design to give the model low consumption and emission figures. The new Crafter also scores for its robustness plus low maintenance and repair costs, all of which help to minimise total cost of ownership.

Designed around you

Volkswagen engineers spent a huge amount of time out on the road with important customer groups, including couriers, construction workers and long-distance drivers. This meant they could identify the needs of drivers and fleets, and produce a vehicle that met their requirements exactly. For example: what systems help in inner-city traffic? How can accidents caused by tiredness be reduced? What makes manoeuvring easy on a muddy building site? As a result, the Crafter offers innovative, practical and electronic solutions for lots of people.

There are three different vehicle lengths available depending on the model chosen, while the closed body variants come with up to three different roof heights. This means customers can configure the new Crafter exactly as they need it and find the best combination of engine, gearbox, drive system, vehicle length and roof height to meet their needs.

Practicality meets technology

The optimal dimensions of the new Crafter ensure maximum practicality and ease in everyday situations. For example: the new vehicle combines extensive cargo capacity with minimal external dimensions, making it extremely manoeuvrable yet solid in its handling, regardless of payload. In terms of cargo area length and capacity, the new Crafter is superior to both its predecessor and its rivals.

The new Crafter sets new standards for assistance and safety systems in the large van sector, due largely to an electro-mechanical steering system that’s being used for the first time in this vehicle class. It allows for numerous driver assistance systems to be used, including ESP with trailer stabilisation, adaptive cruise control, post-collision braking, side wind compensation and a trailer manoeuvring assistant.

Front, side and head airbags for the driver and passengers are also on offer along with an extensive range of warning systems, including a reversing camera, parking distance monitor and rear traffic alert system. LED headlights, cornering lights and light assist provide a clear view of the road ahead at night, while the Crafter also comes with online services that are tailored to the specific needs of customers.
